- When allegations of fraud were leveled against Lockheed-Martin, Joe served as one of the task force leaders in a case that recovered 7.1 million dollars from Lockheed.
- In a case that was once featured in a BBC documentary and is captured in case law, Joe led and went undercover in Operation Lunar Eclipse and recovered the Honduras Goodwill Moon Rock, worth 5 million dollars, and since retiring from NASA his graduate students have helped locate many more. Joe is considered an expert on stolen and missing moon rocks and his knowledge of their worth has been used by a museum to insure an Apollo era moon rock, a moon rock that one of his students had a hand in recovering.
After retiring from NASA, Joe was hired by a United States Attorney’s Office, as a consultant, to assist it in a major case involving a NASA grant, a case that resulted in a significant settlement.
