In the 1980’s, while Joe Gutheinz, now a partner in the Gutheinz Law Firm, worked for the United State Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General as a Special Agent, he had over two dozen successful cases against pilots who falsified their FAA Form 8500-8 Airman Medical Applications, a felony, for lying about alcohol and drug related offenses, which they concealed. At that time he also investigated a pilot who tried to fly drunk, only to find there were no criminal consequences for that conduct. He subsequently lobbied both the Colorado and New Mexico legislatures to create flying while intoxicated laws, which they did. As a college instructor he has taught numerous classes on drug and alcohol abuse and as an attorney he has defended numerous people for a variety of alcohol related crimes.

Michael Gutheinz was involved in the prosecution of DWI cases while an intern with the Galveston County District Attorneys office, as a prosecutor with the United States Army, and a Special Assistant U.S Attorney at Fort Sam Houston.  Now he uses that training and experience to help defend clients charged with alcohol and DWI offenses.
